Definition of Hazardous Waste
Hazardous Waste is waste that poses a threat or risk to public health, safety and/or the environment. It includes sharps, biological, chemical, cytotoxic and radioactive wastes.
Accessing the Collection Service
Hazardous waste is collected by a specialist contractor. These collections are managed by OHS Common Services.
Packing, labelling and manifest requirements are detailed in the Chemical Management Guidelines.
A manifest of the hazardous waste for disposal must be emailed to either your department manager or OHS Common Services 48 hours prior to disposal. For further directions and advice, please contact hazardouswaste-info@unimelb.edu.au.
