    Provide First Aid / CPR

    Become a Workplace First Aider

If you have been nominated to become a University workplace first aider, including for fieldwork, follow the steps below. Standard Provide First Aid training does not include remote-area first aid for locations where medical support is more than one hour away.

    1. Discuss with your supervisor: Discuss the opportunity with your supervisor and obtain their approval before enrolling. You must be able to provide evidence of this approval to Health and Safety Services.
    2. Commitments: By accepting this role, you agree to fulfil the responsibilities of a workplace first aider and allow your contact details to be published in your building’s emergency information.
    3. Obtain certification: First aiders must hold a current 'Provide first aid' certificate.
    4. Inform the Chief Warden and Health and Safety Partner: Once certified, let your building's Chief Warden and your local Health and Safety Business Partner know. They will include your details on building emergency information posters.
    5. Get familiar with emergency procedures: Familiarise yourself with the University’s emergency information, incident and hazard reporting process, and the locations of defibrillators around campus.

Note: Provide CPR is included in the Provide First Aid course and can also be taken as a standalone course after you complete Provide First Aid.

Annual CPR refresher training is recommended, but it is not required to keep the Provide First Aid qualification valid.
