Health and Safety Representatives are employees elected by members of a Designated Work Group to represent their health and safety interests.

The University maintains a list of Elected Health and Safety Representatives and Designated Work Groups.
Use the University HSR list to identify the HSR for your Designated Work Group.
Local areas should promptly notify Health & Safety Services of any changes to HSR or Designated Work Group details by filling in the Notify HSR Outcome form in ServiceNow.

If a Designated Work Group needs to elect a new HSR, follow the Health & Safety: Health and safety representative election guidelines.
The election guidelines include information about:
- election procedures;
- nominations;
- voting arrangements;
- election templates;
- confirmation of election;
- notification of election outcomes.
After an election, the Returning Officer must notify Health & Safety Services of the outcome using the relevant ServiceNow form: Notify HSR Outcome - Health and Safety Services.

Elected HSRs should attend WorkSafe approved HSR training.
Training includes:
Initial HSR training
A five-day course for newly elected HSRs who have not previously completed approved HSR training.HSR refresher training
A one-day refresher course for elected HSRs who have completed initial HSR training. Refresher training may be undertaken once per year.Training funding
Central funding is available for eligible elected employee HSRs.
Before enrolling, HSRs should:
- Confirm training dates with their supervisor.
- Choose a WorkSafe-approved training provider.
- Contact Health & Safety Services team with the proposed training details and cost.
- Once the invoice is received, please send it back to us along with your certificate. The Health & Safety Services team will process the payment.

Designated Work Groups are formally negotiated groups of employees represented by elected HSRs.
A Designated Work Group may need to be reviewed when workplace structures, work locations, reporting lines or organisational arrangements change.
To commence a renegotiation, contact the Director, Health & Safety or nominee, who is authorised to represent the University in DWG negotiations.

The HSR Forum provides an opportunity for Health and Safety Representatives to share information, raise issues and discuss health and safety matters across the University.
